Welcome!
Welcome to the new web portal for Alabama State Department of Education's Teacher Education and Certification Section. We have many exciting features and new content planned for future releases, so keep an eye on this page.

With the most recent update to the portal, certificate and license holders can now register their email address with us to help make servicing renewals easier, faster, and less prone to error. If you're a substitute teacher in good standing, with a license that expires in 2012, you can renew your own license using our self-renewal service.

We would also like to draw your attention to our teacher certification search page. This new page allows you to search for teaching certificates that are held by a specific teacher, along with a history of all certificates and licenses that have been issued to that individual in previous years.

Whether you are pursuing an education degree, applying for certification, looking for a teaching job in the state of Alabama, or you're an interested 3rd party that's searching for public information, our primary goal for this portal is to make it easy for you to find the information that you need. If you have any suggestions for changes, corrections, or new features, please feel free to share them.

On-Line Renewals for 2012 are Now Open
Please remember that it is the educator’s responsibility to prevent renewable certificate(s) from expiring by meeting all continuation requirements during the valid period of the certificate(s). Renewals for certificates that expire on June 30, 2012, must be completed and received in the Teacher Certification Office no later than June 30, 2012.

Educator Responsibilities
As a professional educator certified by the Alabama Department of Education, it is the educator’s responsibility to:

  • Submit the application and supporting documentation appropriate to the approach being pursued, and meet all Alabama certification requirements in effect at the time that both the application and fee are received in the Teacher Certification Office.
  • Stay informed of current requirements in order to maintain valid certification. Certificate renewal requirements are subject to change and requirements in effect at the time that both the application and the fee are received in the Teacher Certification Office must be met.
  • Prevent renewable certificate(s) from expiring by meeting all continuation requirements during the valid period of the certificate. Beginning with certificates that expire June 30, 2012, both the application and fee must be received in the Teacher Certification Office and all requirements must be met no later than the expiration date on the certificate.
  • Update contact information (mailing & email addresses) on file in the Teacher Certification Office. (See the Spotlight section to the right.)
